WEEDS LIKE US

A Solo Exhibition by Claire Millett Lima

September 4–27, 2026
Opening Reception: Friday, September 4 | 5:00–8:00 PM

TAG | The Art Gallery presents WEEDS LIKE US, an immersive solo exhibition by mixed media artist Claire Millett Lima. Through film, painting, textiles, sculpture, photography, and installation, Lima invites visitors to reconsider familiar ideas about nature, human intervention, value, and belonging.

Focusing on roadsides, railroad tracks, construction sites, graffiti-covered walls, and resilient plants growing in disturbed environments, Lima asks: What makes a plant a weed? Who decides what belongs? Her work challenges distinctions such as native and invasive, beautiful and ugly, cultivated and wild, and wanted and unwanted.

At the center of the exhibition is a large-scale film installation framed by towering phragmites reeds, inviting visitors to slow down and become immersed in landscapes that often go unnoticed. Lima’s works combine close observation and field research with hand processes such as weaving, felting, wrapping, and fiber construction.

The exhibition also features An Ongoing Conversation, a collection of books, maps, photographs, notes, and observations from Lima’s research. Visitors are invited to add their own reflections in response to the question: “What are you noticing now that you weren’t noticing before?”

Through WEEDS LIKE US, Lima asks us to practice something increasingly rare: paying attention—and perhaps to see our own neighborhoods with new eyes.
