TAG | The Art Gallery presents Walking Within the Void: The Language of Chinese Abstraction, a solo exhibition by Beijing-based painter Qiuhua (Quinnie) Zhu.

Rooted in Chinese philosophical and artistic traditions, Zhu’s contemporary abstract paintings explore the space between emptiness and existence, stillness and movement, and the visible and unseen. Inspired by Daoist and Buddhist thought, ancient Chinese culture, calligraphy, music, and early civilizations, her sweeping gestures, rhythmic lines, layered surfaces, and vibrant colors evoke energy, memory, spirituality, and transformation.

A graduate of the Central Academy of Fine Arts’ Department of Traditional Chinese Painting, Zhu combines classical training with a distinctly contemporary visual language. Music is also central to her practice, with the improvisational energy of jazz and the flowing resonance of the Chinese guqin informing many of her compositions.

Beyond her studio practice, Zhu is the founder of the Yiya Culture and Arts Institute in Beijing, a nonprofit providing arts education to underserved children and adolescents. Her commitment to education and cultural exchange reflects an artistic practice in which creativity, philosophy, and social engagement are deeply connected.

In Walking Within the Void, emptiness is not an absence—it is a space of possibility from which movement, thought, life, and creation continually emerge.

Join us for the opening reception and meet the artist on Friday, September 4, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.
