Unwrapping: Holiday Show at TAG Gallery
An “Art Off the Wall” Exhibition | Buyers Take Artwork Home Immediately Upon Purchase Boston, MA — TAG Gallery proudly presents Unwrapping, a festive holiday exhibition on view
November 7 – 30, 2025, celebrating creativity, generosity, and the joy of discovery through affordable, small-scale artworks (all under 20 x 20 inches) made by outstanding local and regional artists.
In this “Art Off the Wall” style exhibition, buyers are invited to take artwork home immediately upon purchase, making each visit to the gallery a fresh experience. As pieces are sold and removed, new ones are unveiled, echoing the show’s central theme of revelation and renewal.
About the Exhibition
Unwrapping invites artists and audiences alike to reflect on the acts of revealing, discovering, and deconstructing meaning. During the holiday season, the image of the wrapped gift hidden, then unveiled becomes a profound metaphor not only for material exchange, but for emotional, psychological, and spiritual transformation.
This exhibition explores what lies beneath the surface, whether in form, identity, or narrative. Artists were encouraged to consider layers, literal or symbolic, as sites of change and reflection. What happens when we peel back what’s been concealed? What truths emerge, and what remains?
From the tactile qualities of materials to the stories embedded in ritual and memory, Unwrapping becomes a space for exploration and interpretation, where art mirrors the joy of uncovering meaning itself.
Inspired in part by Roland Barthes, the French philosopher and literary theorist, the exhibition draws on his writings in Mythologies and The Pleasure of the Text, where he examines how meaning is constructed and how cultural signs, gifts, rituals, and images carry layered messages waiting to be revealed.
“What I enjoy in a narrative is not directly its content or even its structure, but rather all the jolts and shudders I get while unwrapping it.”
— Roland Barthes, The Pleasure of the Text (1973)
This idea captures the heart of the exhibition: the thrill of discovery that connects us to art, to others, and to ourselves.
Give Art. Give Meaning.
This holiday season, TAG encourages everyone to rethink the act of giving. Instead of buying mass-produced items, choose art, something made by hand, with heart, and with purpose.
When you give the gift of art, you’re not only offering something beautiful and enduring; you’re supporting an artist’s practice, investing in creativity, and giving meaning to both giver and receiver.
Each artwork purchased helps sustain the vibrant ecosystem of local artists who make our communities richer, more thoughtful, and more inspired.
At TAG, art isn’t just decoration — it’s connection.

Special Event: Artist Talk & Friendsgiving Celebration
Sunday, November 16 | 3:30–5:30 PM
📍 TAG | The Art Gallery, SoWa, Boston
As part of the Unwrapping exhibition, TAG will host a special Artist Talk and Friendsgiving Celebration, offering visitors a rare opportunity to engage directly with the artists and gain deeper insight into their creative processes.
Artist talks serve as an essential bridge between the maker and the audience, fostering meaningful dialogue about the intentions, challenges, and inspirations that shape each work. Through these conversations, attendees develop a richer understanding of the artistic vision and the conceptual framework behind the exhibition.
Following the discussion, guests are invited to join a Friendsgiving Happy Hour, a convivial gathering designed to celebrate community, gratitude, and shared appreciation for the arts. Together, these programs encourage reflection, connection, and the continued support of local artists who contribute so profoundly to the cultural vitality of our region.
