SIP AND CHAT: THE ART OF MAKING

Sip and Chat: The Art of Making

Sunday, NOvember 1st, 4PM to 5PM

What happens between the first idea and the finished artwork?

Join DEVOTION artists Michael Bourque and Derrick Te Paske for a candid conversation about the part of artmaking we rarely see: the process.

Working in radically different mediums, Bourque through layered painting, geometry, color and repetition, and Te Paske through wood, carving, turning and painstaking handwork, the artists will open up their practices to discuss experimentation, technique, repetition, mistakes, material, intuition and the elusive question of knowing when a work is finished.

Rather than a traditional artist talk, this conversation is an invitation inside the studio and inside the creative process. How does an artist develop a visual language? When does repetition lead to discovery? How do materials change an idea? What happens when something goes wrong? And after decades of making art, how do you remain curious?

Designed especially for artists, makers and anyone curious about how art actually comes into being, the evening celebrates not only finished objects, but the searching, experimenting, problem-solving, and persistence that make them possible.

FREE and all are welcome.
