“Beyond the Expected: Art in Flux” Juried Exhibition Challenges Artistic Boundaries
Boston, MA — The New England Art Center (NEAC) is proud to present Beyond the Expected: Art in Flux, a juried exhibition that pushes the boundaries of artistic expression, encouraging artists to transcend conventional practices and explore the dynamic nature of art. This innovative showcase opens to the public on Thursday,
September 5, 2024, at Galatea Fine Art, located in the vibrant SoWa Arts and Design District in Boston.
Organized by Claudia Fiks, founder and director of NEAC, Beyond the Expected: Art in Flux features works from local artists who are breaking the boundaries of contemporary art. The exhibition is juried by LaiSun Keane, who selected works that embody the theme that highlights the artists’ abilities to innovate, adapt their practices, and explore new frontiers in artistic expression. The selected works may incorporate elements of chance, spontaneity, or unexpected outcomes, often utilizing experimental techniques or unconventional materials.
“When selecting works for Beyond the Expected: Art in Flux, I focused on three key criteria: the artwork needed to be visually compelling, push the boundaries of art, and use materials in innovative ways,” says LaiSun Keane. “While these criteria are highly subjective, it’s important to note that the unselected works are not lacking in appeal—they simply reflect my personal preferences.”
In a world where boundaries blur and expectations shift, Beyond the Expected: Art in Flux stands as a beacon of creativity and innovation. This exhibition invites audiences to explore uncharted territories of artistic expression, challenging perceptions and igniting the imagination.
As we navigate an ever-evolving world, where change is the only constant, art serves as a compass, guiding us through the shifting landscape of human experience. Beyond the Expected celebrates this flux, embracing the unpredictable and reveling in the transformative power of creativity. Here, artists dream beyond
the confines of tradition, pushing the boundaries of their mediums and our understanding. They invite us to see the world through fresh eyes, question our assumptions, and find beauty in uncertainty. In their hands, everyday materials become extraordinary, digital realms come alive, and performances blur the lines between creator and spectator.
Beyond the Expected: Art in Flux is an invitation to embrace the extraordinary, celebrate the ever-changing nature of art and life, step outside our comfort zones, and engage
with the unfamiliar.
The exhibition features a diverse array of works, including photography, paintings, sculptures, assemblage, and mixed media.
“We’re thrilled to introduce *Beyond the Expected: Art in Flux* to our community and beyond,” says Claudia Fiks, NEAC founder and director. “Our vision is to create a dynamic environment where artists and art enthusiasts can connect, engage, and be
inspired. It’s a celebration of diverse voices, innovative techniques, and the power of art to bridge cultural divides.”
