TAG Gallery is pleased to present Infinite Connections, a solo exhibition by Boston-based artist Wyatt Freed, on view from June 5 through June 28, 2026. Through a series of monochromatic oil paintings, the exhibition explores the subtle interplay between light, texture, emotion, and perception, inviting viewers into a contemplative experience where meaning emerges gradually through observation and reflection.
At the center of Infinite Connections is the transformative power of the surface. Freed’s richly textured paintings shift continuously as light moves across them, creating evolving visual experiences that change according to time, movement, and perspective. What initially appears minimal or restrained slowly reveals layers of depth, atmosphere, and emotional resonance. The works encourage viewers to slow down and engage with the nuanced relationship between material presence and human perception.
While monochromatic in palette, the paintings are far from static. Through variations in texture, contour, and light absorption, Freed creates compositions that feel immersive and alive. The restrained use of color allows attention to move toward subtle tonal transitions and tactile complexity, emphasizing the meditative and experiential qualities of the work.
With more than four decades of experience in oil painting, Freed brings a refined technical sensibility to his contemporary practice. A graduate of Sacred Heart University with a degree in Art and Illustration, he has spent years developing a distinctive artistic language rooted in emotional expression and formal exploration. His recent body of work marks an important evolution in his practice, one that reflects both personal transformation and a renewed commitment to experimentation.
Freed describes this shift toward contemporary abstraction as both an artistic and personal crossroads. Inspired by profound human connections and life-changing experiences, his recent paintings move beyond representation to explore states of feeling, memory, and introspection. Combining the wisdom of experience with the excitement of discovery, he embraces a process that is intuitive, open-ended, and deeply reflective.
Each brushstroke, contour, and textured surface carries an emotional charge, bridging traditional oil painting techniques with contemporary sensibilities. Through this balance, Freed’s work creates a dialogue between stillness and movement, simplicity and complexity, intimacy and expansiveness.
Infinite Connections invites viewers to experience painting not only as an image, but as an evolving encounter shaped by light, time, and presence.
