Chromatic Currents at TAG Explores the Emotional Power of Color

Exhibition Dates: March 7 – 30, 2024

Location: The Art Gallery TAG | 460C Harrison Ave, Boston | SoWa Arts and Design District

Boston, MA – The Art Gallery TAG is thrilled to present “Chromatic Currents,” a compelling exhibition running from March 7 – 30, 2024, that delves into the profound relationship between color and human emotion. Featuring the work of experienced TAG artist members, this exhibition explores how artists harness color to create meaning, question their surroundings, and engage in deep conversations about perception, emotion, and artistic expression.

Drawing inspiration from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s Theory of Colors, this show examines color as more than just a visual experience—highlighting its ability to shape emotional responses, influence psychological states, and inform artistic choices. The featured artists have created work specifically for this exhibition, each piece reflecting their unique interpretation of color’s role in shaping how we see and feel the world around us. From bold, high-energy hues that evoke excitement and movement to subdued, contemplative palettes that inspire introspection, “Chromatic Currents” offers a vibrant dialogue between art and viewer.

“Color is one of the most powerful tools an artist has—it is a language in itself, capable of evoking deep emotions, triggering memories, and altering perception. This exhibition invites audiences to reflect on how color speaks to them personally and emotionally, and how it brings significance into our lives through artistic expression,” Claudia Fiks, Founder/Director of TAG.

For centuries, color has been a subject of philosophical inquiry, psychological study, and artistic innovation. The artists in Chromatic Currentscontinue this exploration, offering multiple perspectives on how color can serve as a bridge between the tangible and the intangible, the seen and the felt. Their works push boundaries, reframe familiar surroundings, and invite us to question how we emotionally engage with the world through color.
