ALLEGORY OF FREEDOM

TAG Artists Exhibition at EventThem Studios Gallery

October 18 – November 22, 2026

Opening Reception: Sunday, October 18 | 4–7 PM
EventThem Studios Gallery | 344 Salem Street, Medford, MA

TAG | The Art Gallery, in collaboration with EventThem Studios Gallery, is pleased to present Allegory of Freedom, a dynamic exhibition bringing together TAG artists whose diverse practices explore the many dimensions of freedom—personal, creative, cultural, and collective.

What does it mean to be free? Is freedom a condition we inherit, a right we claim, or an experience we continually redefine?

Allegory of Freedom invites viewers to consider these questions through the transformative language of art. Moving beyond literal representations, the exhibition explores freedom as an evolving human experience—one shaped by memory, identity, resistance, imagination, and the desire for self-expression.

Through painting, photography, mixed media, and sculpture, participating artists offer distinct visual interpretations of liberation and possibility. Some works embrace spontaneity, movement, and the expressive potential of color and gesture. Others investigate the relationship between structure and openness, revealing the delicate tension between boundaries and the desire to transcend them. Still others turn inward, exploring freedom through personal narratives, cultural memory, and the complexities of human experience.

Together, these artistic perspectives suggest that freedom is neither singular nor absolute. It exists in the space between individuality and belonging, vulnerability and strength, tradition and transformation.

Art itself is an act of freedom. Every artistic decision—the choice of material, the movement of a brush, the construction or disruption of form—becomes an assertion of possibility. In this sense, the exhibition celebrates not only freedom as a subject but also the creative process as an expression of autonomy, experimentation, and discovery.

“Freedom is one of the most profound and complex ideas we encounter as individuals and as a society,” says Claudia Fiks, Founder and Director of TAG | The Art Gallery. “Through this exhibition, we invite artists to explore freedom without prescribing its meaning. Their works remind us that artistic expression creates space for questioning, challenging conventions, and imagining new possibilities. At a time when the meaning of freedom continues to be debated and redefined, art offers us a powerful language for reflection and dialogue.”

Presented at EventThem Studios Gallery in Medford, Allegory of Freedom also reflects TAG’s commitment to extending artistic conversations beyond its Boston gallery walls. This collaboration creates opportunities for artists to connect with new audiences while strengthening relationships among creative communities across Greater Boston.

Visitors are invited to experience an exhibition that embraces artistic diversity and encourages reflection on freedom as both a personal journey and a shared human aspiration.
